We had the opportunity this year to spend the week of the 4th of July in Carlsbad, California, on the beach, with Montana's mom and step-dad, Allen. Greg and his family and Scottee and her family were also there. We had so much fun! We drove down on Friday and the kids did surprisingly well in the car. And we did it without movies the whole time. I think we finally turned one on when we got stuck in LA traffic for a few hours.
On Saturday, we spent the day on the beach. The weather could not have been more perfect. The kids loved to play in the sand and Mason loved to jump the waves with his cousins....or random kids that would jump with him! Tanner took a great nap and Montana and I sat around relaxing. Montana did some boogie boarding and I occasionally got out of my chair!
On Sunday, we went to church and then decided that we would go to Oceanside and walk the pier. We parked the van, ate lunch in the van, and headed to the pier. There were lots of people fishing off the pier and one guy caught a sand shark while we watched. It was quite cool. We just enjoyed the beautiful weather and being together as a family.
When we got back to camp, the kids decided to paint rocks. They loved being able to be creative!
On Monday, we headed out to the San Diego Zoo. (This day will have it's own post.)
After the zoo, we had Juanitas for dinner.
It made Montana and I both so sick that we will not be frequenting that place anymore. Mason said it made him sick while we were eating so he stopped.
The kids loved to play Legos with their cousins when we weren't doing anything else. They finally played in the back of Uncle Brian's truck to keep smaller people from ruining their creations.
On Tuesday, we spent the afternoon at a little lagoon where we could paddle board. The beach was not rocky at the lagoon and Montana had a blast on the paddle board. He would take the kids out with him, one at a time. Greg and his family and Randee and Allen came with us. It was fun to watch the kids play and to watch others fall off the paddle boards!
Wednesday was the 4th of July. The weather was cloudy and cold so we knew we weren't going to go down on the beach. We decided to head to the Safari Park that afternoon. (This will be its own post.) We were going to go to a park and watch fireworks but the park was now charging to park and then charging, per person, to watch the fireworks. We decided not to go. So, we headed back to camp after the Safari Park and roasted hot dogs and marshmallows. The kids went to bed early and Montana and I watched fireworks from the campsite. It was so quiet in the campground since everybody was out watching fireworks.
On Thursday, we took the kids to Legoland and again, it will have its own post!
Friday was leave the beach day.
We woke up early, got everyone packed up and headed to LA. We got stuck in traffic, again, but eventually made it to our hotel. We got situated and took the kids to the pool. Then we headed back to our room for cup of noodles for dinner! We took the kids to get ice cream and rented a Redbox movie. We got ready for bed and watched the movie.
Saturday morning Tanner woke up sick. It was our only day to go to Six Flags so we debated on what we should do. Tanner seemed to be feeling better so we loaded up and headed to the park. We put Tanner in the stroller and he eventually fell asleep and slept for a good portion of the morning. We did some kid rides, then Montana went on some BIG rides. It was really hot and I didn't feel very good. The boys were done because there wasn't a lot for them to do.
Montana decided that the rides weren't that good either so we headed back to the hotel in the early afternoon. The kids wanted to swim again instead of walking around the park in the heat. I stayed in the room with Tanner while Montana took Mason and Peyton swimming.
Sunday morning, we packed up, checked out of the hotel and started our LONG drive back to Utah. I woke up sick that morning and wanted to throw up the entire way home. Montana was so glad to be home since he had to drive the whole way and play "mom" as well.
We had a great trip and enjoyed all the time we had to spend with family. We were really tired when we got home and glad to be home. We can't wait until we can go again!!!
