Provo City Center Temple Groundbreaking

Since we live in the boundaries for the new Provo City Center Temple, we had the opportunity to go to the groundbreaking. We didn't know how the kids would do but they did surprisingly well. It was quite cold that morning and we didn't plan well for that! We were in our seats by about 8:15AM and we were still towards the back. The groundbreaking started at 9AM. It was hard to keep the kids occupied while we waited for it to start. There was a hot air balloon out and about (getting pretty close to the temple) and that kept the kids attention for awhile. President Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles was there. It was neat for the boys to be able to witness that. The speakers spoke a lot about the history of Provo and the tabernacle. (The tabernacle burned down in December of 2010 and instead of rebuilding it as a tabernacle, they have decided to rebuild it as another temple for Provo.) We hung around after it was over and worked our way to the front so the boys could actually break some of the dirt. The shovels they used were made from materials from the tabernacle. It was a really neat experience for the boys and we are so grateful to be getting a temple so close to our home....within walking distance actually!
